Raise Reproductive Health Awareness among Women
Provided funding for 180 days of access to health awareness sessions.
Project managed by: Academy of Root Development
There is a high infant mortality rate in rural India. Historically women give birth at home, attended by a generally untrained birthing assistant. The Academy of Root Development organises comprehensive Reproductive and Child Health Awareness Programs to women. They learn about their body and about appropriate and safe health practices. The women are also supported to make informed choices and find the pre and post-natal support they need. Your support provides wages for field staff to be able to deliver information and support participants in accessing health services.
More About This Project
Academy of Root Development is working in a district which comprises 29,000 households. Currently, there are 1,386 adolescent girls and 231 pregnant women participating in the Family Planning Awareness program and ARD hopes to reach a target of 3000-4000 women. Where possible the Academy of Root Development encourages women to give birth in a hospital where they can receive proper care. They are taught the value of immunisation and encouraged to keep their children up-to-date with vaccinations. The sessions take place on a monthly base and run for one year.
